Police in Bwera Division, Kasese District, have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a 22-year-old casual worker whose body was discovered in a garden near River Nyamugasani in Kisinga Sub-county.
The deceased, identified as Jackson Tugume, a resident of Kamuruli Village, Kagando Parish, was reportedly last seen alive on June 23, 2026.
Preliminary police findings indicate that Tugume left his brother’s residence at about 1:00 p.m. and headed to Kiburara Trading Centre. Hours later, residents discovered his lifeless body lying in a garden a few metres from River Nyamugasani in Kidodo, Kamuruli Village.
Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said police responded after receiving information about the discovery and are working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
"The deceased left his brother's residence and went to Kiburara Trading Centre. Later, his body was discovered lying in a garden near River Nyamugasani. Police were notified and immediately responded to the scene," Maate said.
Police said no visible external injuries were found on the body at the time it was recovered.
Maate added that although some community members alleged that the deceased had been struggling with drug addiction, investigators had not established whether this was connected to his death.
"At the scene, no external injuries were observed on the body. However, we are awaiting the post-mortem examination to establish the actual cause of death," he said.
A team of officers from Bwera Police Station visited and documented the scene before transferring the body to Bwera Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police have appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
"The body was conveyed to Bwera Hospital for post-mortem. We urge anyone with information that may assist our investigations to come forward as inquiries into the matter continue," Maate said.
The case remains under active investigation as police await post-mortem results to determine the cause of death.
